The Deer Valley Park re-development project in north-west Oshawa opened with a splash Wednesday with a ribbon-cutting to mark the opening of the upgraded park, which now includes a new splash pad.

Other changes include new junior play equipment, a large climbing structure, swings and additional seating with shade. The park also has an accessible park pathway and accessible swing, as well as a soccer field with players’ benches and bleachers. Tree plantings throughout the park provide both shade and habitat opportunities.

“This park is a tremendous addition to the neighbourhood and I am confident it will be used by all ages, from toddlers to seniors,” said Councillor Brian Nicholson, Chair of the Safety and Facilities Services Committee.

Community engagement was undertaken in fall 2021 on preferred playground equipment and accessibility. Construction of the upgrades to the playground and sports field were completed by the end of 2022; the splash pad, pathways and plantings were completed in spring of 2023.

“We are excited to offer another revitalized outdoor space,” said Mayor Dan Carter. “Deer Valley Park will undoubtedly provide hours of fun for the children and residents of all ages in this neighbourhood. Enjoy!”
