Work is well underway on an extensive renovation to Bowmanville’s Veterans’ Square, with the re-do expected to be completed in time for the Remembrance Day ceremony in November.

The renovations have been ongoing since May and Clarington officials promise a new “vibrant and welcoming” space for people of all abilities.  Once complete, Veterans’ Square will feature five new flag poles, raised gardens, accessible seating, paved pathways, a service animal relief area and mobility device charging stations.

Temporary fencing has been erected around the site during construction and the main entrance on Temperance Street will be closed for the next two or three weeks as work moves to the next phase of construction.

The accessible Church Street entrance will remain open during regular business hours and visitors to Town Hall can also access the building through the Bowmanville Library during operating hours. The accessibility ramp will remain open.

Local businesses along Temperance Street will also remain open and accessible.

A section of sidewalk and on-street metered parking on the west side of Temperance Street will be blocked off and residents and businesses in the area may experience brief periods of noise between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Parking spaces on the east side of the street will be available.

Veterans’ Square, located at the Municipal Administrative Centre at 40 Temperance Street in Bowmanville, hosts civic events and is the focal point of Clarington’s Remembrance Service. The renovated space will provide more opportunities for residents to connect with the community and honour the sacrifices and achievements of the local men and women who served in Canada’s military in times of war, military conflict and peace.
