If you want Friday to be movie night for Hollywood blockbusters like Black Widow, F9 The Fast Saga, Space Jam or Snake Eyes, you should mark Wednesday on your calendar first.

Movie lovers who are pining for the big screen experience and getting excited about July 16 and the re-opening of theatres are being made to wait just a little bit longer to book their cinema seats for the opening weekend.

Friday is the big day but theatre giants Cineplex Odeon, which operates multi-screen theatres in Pickering, Ajax, Oshawa and Bowmanville, has set Wednesday as the earliest you can book your tickets for the show.

Landmark Cinemas, who own the 24-screen entertainment complex in Whitby, made the same call as theatre staff scramble to get ready for the big weekend.

The Roxy Theatre in Uxbridge – one of the few truly independent theatres left in the GTA – has not made an announcement as to when they will be re-opening.

Doug Ford’s government, after declaring on June 30 he would wait the full three weeks to move to Step 3 in the re-opening plan, announced last week the new date would be July 16 – five days early.

Under the Step 3 restrictions, indoor movie theatres can open at 50 per cent capacity, with a 1,000-person limit foe the whole building.
