Indian street food is my ultimate weakness. Its irresistible fusion of flavours, served in bite-sized portions, is what excites me. You can imagine how thrilled I was when I came across this restaurant in Oshawa.

Street Momo, which opened in 2022, is located at 19 Simcoe St. S., nestled in a business strip in the City’s downtown.

As you enter the restaurant, a wooden statue with hands folded in the classic “Wai” gesture warmly greets you. The “Sawasdee” salutation, which means “Welcome” in Thai, sets a hospitable tone, reflecting the warmth of Southeast Asian culture.

The menu at Street Momo features a variety of dishes blending Indian and Nepalese flavours. Some options include chow mein, vegetable pakora (vegetable fritters in chickpea flour), chicken tikka masala (grilled chicken in a creamy tomato sauce), chilli chicken and lamb rogan josh (lamb cooked with onions, ginger, and garlic).

But I had my sights set on one thing and one thing only: the momos, dumplings filled with a mix of meats or vegetables.
THE DISH:
For this reco, I tried the Tandoori Momos, which were out of this world in terms of texture and flavour!
The momos, which come in nine pieces, are soft and chewy on the outside. They have a juicy chicken filling with just the right amount of spice.
These momos differ from regular dumplings with their distinctive pointed ends. These not only help seal the filling but are also charred at the bottom, adding an extra layer of flavour.
When it comes to appetizers, crab rangoons are the showstopper. Crispy on the outside and filled with crab and cream cheese, they’re a must-try.
THE UNIQUE:

Besides the delicious food, if you choose to dine in, you’ll be delighted to see a robot deliver your food right to your table, adding a fun and futuristic touch to your meal.

THE VERDICT:

Street Momo is a great choice if you’re looking to enjoy the same complex, spice-driven flavours in a quieter setting away from the bustling street vendors. You can have uninterrupted conversations with family and friends at your table while a robot quietly rolls over, delivers your food, and then goes away. For a standout experience, I highly recommend the momos and crab rangoon.
