The two Ontario Tech Ridgeback hockey teams were back on the ice after several months away due to COVID restrictions this past weekend and took four out of eight points on their return.

The women’s team blanked the York Lions Saturday on Mia Rodgers’ first period goal and Brooke Vial’s 39-save performance, her third career shutout. The previous night in Toronto was their first game in 70 days and the Ridgebacks lost a heartbreaker when York’s Kelsey McHolm’s winner 2:26 into overtime.

York had assembled a 3-1 lead before Ontario Tech stormed back to tie it at three in the third and send the game into extra time. Brooklyn Duff, Blaire Allison and Mackenzie Krasowski scored for Ontario Tech.

The men beat Queens 4-1 Friday night in Kingston, with the Golden Gaels turning the tables back in Oshawa Sunday night with a 4-1 win of their own.

Andrew Suriyuth scored a pair of goals Friday and had the Ridgebacks’ lone marker Sunday. Cullen McLean and Matt Barron had the other goals for the Oshawa school while Leif Hert stopping 26 shots for the win. Matthew Needham scored twice for Queens on Sunday.
