Road closures: 5 month water and sewer work to affect traffic in Clarington
Published August 12, 2024 at 12:20 pm
There will be major construction along busy roadways in Clarington starting today (August 12), leading to road closures and traffic delays through the fall and into early next year.
The Durham municipality says the work will involve the replacement of the existing sanitary sewer forcemain and the construction of a new gravity sanitary sewer from Cobbledick Road to Toronto Street.
Managed by Boyle Excavating Ltd., the project will also include the restoration of all disturbed areas.
As part of the construction, Cobbledick Road, from Service Road to the waterfront trail, including the Samuel Wilmot Nature Area parking lot, will be closed from now until November 11.
However, access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.
The work will also require temporarily closing a section of the waterfront trail between Cobbledick Road and Toronto Street.
Trail users will be redirected onto Cobbledick Road north of Service Road, Regional Highway 2, Rudell Road, Edward Street West, and Mill Street South. Detour signage will guide them along the alternate route.
According to the City’s website, durham.ca, residents can expect some noise and vibration from the construction equipment. The Durham municipality is aware of these potential disruptions and is committed to minimizing them, aiming to complete the project efficiently by January 2025.
