Santa makes magical parade return Saturday to Oshawa, Bowmanville & Newcastle

Santa Claus will be a busy elf Saturday, with the return of the always popular Parade of Lights to Oshawa and the annual Bowmanville Santa Claus Parade and the Newcastle Santa Parade – all on the same day.
Considering jolly ol’ St. Nick is able to squeeze down a billion or so chimneys on the same night, pulling of this trifecta should be a breeze.
Holiday magic is what it is.
The Oshawa Santa Claus Parade of Lights, a spectacular evening parade with colourful and brightly lit floats, dancers, and marching bands, will wind its way through the streets of Oshawa to the delight of children and the young at heart from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Organizers have planned a new route this year to make it a little easier to find your spot for the parade, with the route travelling westbound from Division Street in downtown Oshawa and heading along Bond Street all the way to Gibbons Street, just above the north entrance to the Oshawa Centre mall.
The debut Santa Claus parade, welcomed by then-mayor Frank McCallum, took place 77 years ago on Saturday, Nov. 29, 1947.
The holiday season gets underway in Clarington Saturday morning with the Bowmanville Santa Claus Parade, starting at 10:30 a.m. at the western edge of downtown at Roegnik Drive.
The parade will travel east on King Street (Highway 2) to Liberty Street, where the floats and other parade participants will turn south to end at Memorial Park.
Fireworks will help launch the Newcastle Santa Parade, which will begin at Fosterbrooke Long Term Care at 5:30 before the parade procession heads east along King Avenue.
The parade will end at Brookhouse Drive and Arthur Street.
