The Durham District School Board is leaving X (formerly Twitter), with public updates and news for students and parents now limited to Instagram and Facebook.
It is not known if the move away from Elon Musk’s highly politicized platform is related to the presidential win earlier this month by Donald Trump, though it appears the school board – which pledges on its website to be “welcoming, respectful, safe, inclusive, equitable, accessible and free from all forms of discrimination, harassment, racism, oppression and harm” has not joined the exodus to former Twitter platform Blue Sky.
“Going forward, we’ll be using this platform for emergencies only,” the board said in a farewell message on X. “To receive regular updates and reminders from DDSB follow us on Instagram @ddsbschools, Facebook – Durham District School Board and visit our website: https://ddsb.ca/en/index.aspx.
