Scugog Township Council will hold a series of closed-door special Council meetings next month to decide on its next Chief Administrative Officer.

The position became vacant July 5 when Ken Nix – Scugog’s highest paid employee with an annual salary of nearly $178,000 – left his job. The salary range for the position is $132,738 to $181,526.

Six days later Scugog appointed Ralph Walton as the township’s top bureaucrat on an interim basis while Council and staff began the search for a permanent CAO.

The meetings, which will be held October 1, October 7 and October 16, will not be livestreamed or open to the public. The agenda for the first meeting will be available Friday afternoon.

There have been six different people serving as CAO or acting CAO in the past decade, including Bev Hendry, whose nine-year term ended in 2014 when she took a position with the City of Oshawa; Ian Roger, whose tenure lasted just six months; Don Gordon, who assumed the job on an interim basis; Paul Allore, who served until his retirement in 2020; Nix, who put four years into the job; and Walton, who is currently serving in an interim role.
