The Township of Scugog wants input from residents on preparing the 2024 budget.

Input from the community is a “vital part” of the budget planning process and the Township is providing a budget survey (my.scugog.ca/budget) to find out where residents and business and property owners want their tax dollars spent.

Each year, staff prepares a game plan that takes new ideas for programs and service improvements and runs with them to produce the operating and capital budget, which this year will be debated at Council in the fall with the final decision next spring.

“Long-term sustainability is one of our main goals and as with many other municipalities across Canada, the infrastructure deficit continues to be a major issue that we must continue to address,” Scugog Township said in a statement. “The Township has made a difference with their multi-year funding plan, however, there is still a long way to go. Solid budget planning will continue to allow for upgrades to existing roads, bridges, sidewalks, piers, parks, and equipment to ensure we are equipped to better serve the community.”

In addition to the budget feedback form, the My Scugog site provides information on how a municipal budget is built, the budget process timeline, budget facts, frequently asked questions, and a comment form for question and other feedback. Finance staff are monitoring the site and will respond to questions submitted.

Virtual public open house meetings will be hosted in November to review the draft Capital Budget, and in February to review the draft Operating Budget.
