Police have diffused the second armed person situation today with the arrest of a man who had locked himself inside a residence in north Oshawa.

Durham Police are reporting that a man is in custody and that the area around Kensington Crescent – between Ritson Road and Wilson Road and between Taunton Road and Beatrice Street – will reopen to traffic shortly.

Police have been advised the closure will not impact the bus routes for students, with Eastdale High just to the south and east and Durham College/Ontario Tech University to the north and west.

Officers were on the scene at the Kensington Crescent residence this afternoon after responding to reports of an armed person who was “confined to the home.”

Police say there were no threats to public safety.

This is the second armed person call officers have had to deal with today, with one man in custody after a man barricaded himself in a home near Dundas Street and Garden Street in downtown Whitby.
