Second death reported at Hillsdale Estate in Oshawa

Another death has been reported at Hillsdale Estate in Oshawa – the second fatality after an outbreak was declared at the long-term care home August 26.
Sixteen residents and six staff tested positive for the virus after the outbreak was first reported. A total of 17 people at the facility are now self-isolating.
There has been a total of 119 new cases in Durham Region over the past four days, including 38 Friday, 39 Saturday and 21 in each of the past two days. There are seven people currently hospitalized, with none in ICU.
Ajax fuelled a third of Friday’s new case load with 13 cases, while Oshawa contributed to Saturday’s numbers with 15 new cases reported. Clarington (7) and Whitby (9) reported the highest number of new cases on Sunday and Monday, respectively.
There are a total of 213 active cases of the virus and the number of people diagnosed with the Delta variant since it was first identified in the Region is now at 582. The highly infectious nature of the variant is evident with the Hillsdale outbreak, as 95 per cent of residents and 83 per cent of staff are fully vaccinated.
The death toll in Durham Region connected to COVID-19 since the pandemic was first declared now stands at 378.
