A second man has been charged in the murder of Steven Turgeon, 62, who was stabbed to death in Oshawa back in January.

Turgeon was found suffering “obvious signs of trauma” at his home near Dean Avenue and Ritson Road South around 11:30 p.m. on January 22. Durham Police reported that there had been a fight in the home.

When officers responded they found Turgeon seriously injured. Paramedics rushed him to hospital where he soon succumbed to his wounds. Turgeon was the second murder victim of 2024 in Durham Region.

Turgeon was not immediately identified until an autopsy had been performed. This post-mortem concluded Turgeon had been stabbed.

A K-9 unit sweep of the area found one suspect; Tyler Stephens, 32 of Clarington. He was charged with second-degree murder. However, evidence indicated a second suspect was involved. This second man evaded capture at the time and police did not release a description at the time.

On July 23, police confirmed the arrest of a second man; Nathan Christopher Lopez, 26 of Toronto. Lopez is also charged with second-degree murder and has been held until a bail hearing.
