Durham Region continues to show positive signs that we are starting to climb out of the pandemic, with seven new cases of the COVID-19 virus reported yesterday, which is just about the weekly average.

There are 44 active cases of the virus – holding steady from Monday – and two people remain in hospital. Whitby and Oshawa had two new cases each on Wednesday.

Just one student – from Orono Public School in Clarington – is home isolating and all long-term care homes in Durham are virus-free. There is still one outstanding workplace outbreak.

The vaccination rate for the region’s 12-plus population is 83.2
