Several shots fired leads to search for armed suspect north of Oshawa: police

Reports of over a dozen gunshots in an Ontario town has police searching for an armed suspect north of Oshawa.
Durham Regional Police say the shooting happened around 3 a.m. Peace Street and Davidson Street in Cannington, approximately 55 kilometres north of Oshawa.
Investigators say officers were called about “an armed person” in the area, and over a dozen gunshots were reported.
Police have released an audio recording of the shooting and say a series of six shots can be heard followed by a brief pause and another nine gunshots.
On Monday, December 16, 2024, at approximately 3 a.m., members of North Division responded to the area of Peace Street and Davidson Street in Cannington for an armed person, after a series of gun shots were heard.

A shooting scene was located and police say officers recovered shell casings. No injuries were reported and the shooting is believed to be an isolated incident, police said.
Investigators are asking anyone with information about the shooting or video footage of the incident to come forward to police.
