Severe thunderstorm headed to Pickering and Ajax

April 17 Weather: Showers and a risk of thunder in southern Ontario

Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing strong wind gusts and heavy rain that is headed to Pickering and Ajax.

This line of severe thunderstorms is currently located from Scarborough to Pickering, moving southeast at 20 km/h towards Ajax where it is hoped it will the tack across Lake Ontario.

Strong wind gusts and heavy rain are expected, which can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles.

Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.

Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following large hail or damaging winds and torrential rainfall.
