Sexual assault and threats with gun reported in Oshawa

An Oshawa man faces charges after a sexual assault and threats with a gun were reported to police.
A woman reported that she was alone on the corner of Simcoe Street South and Athol Street in Oshawa around 2 p.m. on Friday, April 19 when a man approached her and touched her inappropriately before walking away, Durham Regional Police said in a press release.
The woman told her partner, and the couple confronted the man.
The man then made threats with a firearm toward the couple before leaving the area, police said. The couple did not sustain any physical injuries, police said.
Officers searched the area and found a man a short distance away.
A search turned up a concealed BB gun that resembled a revolver, police said.
Elvin Canonizado, 28, from Oshawa is charged with sexual assault, two counts of uttering threats, possession of a weapon for committing an offence, carrying a concealed weapon, and use of an imitation firearm during a commission of an offence.
