Oshawa Local Government Week

Shirley, Nathan, Paige and Hayley may not be familiar names outside their own households but the City of Oshawa staffers will get a brief taste of the limelight this week as they take citizens behind the scenes as Oshawa celebrates Local Government Week.

Marked every year during the third week of October, Local Government Week offers residents and other community members an open invitation to learn more about their municipal government. As the level of government closest to the community, city programs and services have a significant impact on day-to-day life of everyone who lives or works here.

This week, residents and community members are encouraged to follow along on the official Oshawa Instagram, Facebook and Twitter (X) accounts to learn more about the city’s roles and responsibilities and take a dive into a day in the life of four public servants.

  • On Tuesday, you’ll meet Shirley, a Research & Business Analyst who helps Oshawa Fire Services make data-informed decisions
  • Wednesday will introduce Nathan, a Facility Attendant who keeps the ice pads and pools in tip-top shape
  • Thursday will highlight Paige, a Community Events Coordinator who keeps the fun going year long
  • And on Friday, you’ll meet Hayley, a Customer Service Representative in the Recreation Services Branch who helps people find their new favourite program, event and activity.
