Shots were fired at a home in Uxbridge early Saturday morning – the second time in a month the same house was targeted – in what police believe is a case of mistaken identity.
No injuries were reported in either incident.
Durham Police responded to reports of gunfire just after 4 a.m. Saturday at a home on Deer Ridge Road, the same location police were called to earlier in November. Shell casings were recovered at both scenes.
The motives behind these shootings remain under investigation but is believed the home involved was mistakenly targeted.
This year, there has been a 33 per cent increase in shootings, a “disturbing trend” that significantly impacts the entire Durham Region community, said Durham Police in a news release. “We want to assure the community that each incident is taken seriously and we are committed to holding those responsible accountable. We encourage the public to report any suspicious activity to the police.”
Anyone with cell phone, dashcam, surveillance footage or information about this incident is asked to contact A/D/Sgt. Naccarato of the North Division Criminal Investigation Bureau at 1-888-579-1520 x 2677.
Anonymous information can be sent to Durham Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or online at www.durhamregionalcrimestoppers.ca. Tipsters may be eligible for a cash reward.
