Drivers regained the use of Simcoe Street between First Avenue and Bloor Street early this morning after the installation of a storm sewer crossing, part of the pre-demolition work for the replacement of the Simcoe Street and Albert Street bridges across Highway 401.

The provincial Transport Ministry hired Brennan Construction to perform the work, which meant the full closure of Simcoe Street as well as the Hwy 401 westbound ramp, from 6 a.m. Saturday to 6 a.m. Monday.

The Simcoe Street bridge was partially replaced earlier this summer. The project, along with the replacement of the neighbouring Albert Street bridge over the highway, will be completed later this year.

Project information is available at Oshawa.ca/MTO.
