A sixth grader from Sir Albert Love Catholic School is Oshawa’s 2024 Junior Fire Chief.
Gabriel’s role is to be an ambassador for fire safety in his school, home and community and a positive role model for his peers.
The Junior Fire Chief contest encouraged Oshawa students in Grades 5 and 6 to submit a video outlining the importance of smoke alarms and home escape planning. Oshawa Fire Services announced Gabriel’s winning video on Thursday at a school assembly in front of his teachers and fellow students, as well as Oshawa Fire Chief Stephen Barkwell and Oshawa Mayor Dan Carter.
As the 2024 Junior Fire Chief Gabriel also received some swag, including a laptop from Best Buy and a bike from Canadian Tire, as well as a tour of fire headquarters, a dinner at McDonalds for his family and a ride in a fire truck.
Throughout the year Gabriel will participate in community activities with Oshawa Fire Services.
