Some 5,000 customers without power in Ajax and Pickering

Roughly 5,000 hydro customers are without power in Ajax amid a major wind storm.

Elexicon Energy announced the outage around 6 p.m. on Feb 28. The outage covers the Ajax from north Rossland Rd., past the town border and 5th Concession St. and covers all of east Pickering to the Uxbridge Townline.

On the east side the outage just over the Lakeridge Rd. border with Whitby and extends west to the Whites Rd and Taunton Rd. area.

The cause of the outage is unknown at the moment. Elexicon estimates they’ll have the power back on between 9:30 and 10 p.m. Crews have already been dispatched to effect repairs.

The outage has curbed services in Ajax, leading to the early closure of the Audley Library.
