Aaron Westerink of Oshawa is $100,000 richer after JAWS lotto win

A spur of the moment decision has paid big dividends for an Oshawa man who won $100,000 in an INSTANT JAWS game.

Aaron Westerink, who works in distribution services, plays the lottery only but decided to give his wife – a regular player – $5 for a ticket as she was heading to the store to purchase her tickets.

“I was working from home when my wife returned with the tickets and we went to the back patio to play them,” recalled Westerink while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to claim his winnings. “When we scanned our tickets on the OLG app, we saw the prize amount and couldn’t believe what we were seeing – I think I scanned my ticket three or four times to be sure it was real.”

“It was a beautiful moment filled with hugs and a few tears!”

While their plans for the windfall include paying some bills and investing, his children have other ideas in mind. “They heard our excitement and have already planning their Christmas lists.”

JAWS is available for $5 a play and the top prize is $100,000. Odds of winning any prize are 1 in 3.87.

The winning ticket was purchased at Niruthija Grocery on Hortop Street in Oshawa.
