Stolen car, hit-and-run accident leads to charges for three in Bowmanville

Three men are facing a battery of charges after they fled from a stolen vehicle after colliding with a light post in Bowmanville early Wednesday morning.
Durham Police responded to a collision near Brown Street and King Street East, just west of Liberty Street on Bowmanville’s east side, shortly before 2 a.m. Wednesday.
A black Honda SUV had left the roadway and hit a light post and witnesses said the three occupants in the vehicle fled the area before police arrived.
An investigation revealed the SUV had been reported stolen.
Officers searched the area and found the three suspects, who were taken into custody without incident.
The driver, 33-year-old Anthony Robert Henri of Ajax, is charged with possession of stolen property (over $5,000), fail to remain, driving while under suspension, using fake license plates and two breach of probation offences.
Mark Anthony Wintels, 65 and also of Ajax, is charged with possession of stolen property (over $5,000) and Clarington’s Justin Jeremy Coburn, 27, is charged with possession of stolen property (over $5,000) and fail to comply with an undertaking.
Henri and Coburn were held for a bail hearing. Wintels was released on a promise to appear in court.
