Two men found in a stolen recreational vehicle in Oshawa Wednesday night tried to run from police, only for one to be caught after a short chase while the other was found in the back of a SUV parked “suspiciously” next to the RV he was escaping from.

A search of the vehicles discovered a rifle, ammunition and a quantity of drugs and both men are now facing charges.

Durham Police were on a routine patrol just after nine p.m. when the officers observed an RV and a SUV “suspiciously parked” near Park Road and King Street west of downtown Oshawa and decided to investigate.

The RV turned out to be stolen and the suspects sussed out what was going on outside and decided to try to make their escape. Both men were eventually taken into custody without incident.

Oshawa’s Jesse Holmes, 34, and Jonathan Englehart, 37, of Prescott, Ontario are both charged with three counts of trafficking Schedule 1 drugs (methamphetamine, crack cocaine and hydromorphone), while Holmes was also hit with a charge of improper storage of a firearm

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Cst. Handscomb of Central East Division at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 2327.
