An Oshawa man has been charged in a string of 24 break-and-enters of businesses across the city.
Restaurants, salons, and other small businesses were targeted between December and April. On April 11, Durham Regional Police responded to a break-in at the Stag Shop at 22 Stevenson Rd. shortly before 5 a.m.
However, the police say the suspect couldn’t crack open the cash register and fled the store. Later, investigators found a suspect in a nearby plaza on King Street and Thornton Road. The man allegedly attempted to flee from the officers but was arrested.
Police raided the suspect’s home where they claim they found cocaine, cash and items connected to the various robberies.
Shane Fischer is charged with 24 counts each of break and enter, disguise with intent and breaching probation. He’s also been charged with cocaine possession. He remains in custody pending a bail hearing.
