String of 27 break-and-enters leads to charges for four including Oshawa man

A string of 27 break-and-enters at stores across Toronto and Durham Region has resulted in charges for four men, including one from Oshawa.

Durham and Toronto Police responded to the B&Es at several businesses between November 2023 and Aug. 23, 2024. The break-ins target cannabis shops, electronics stores and cell phone retailers.

Toronto Police believe the suspects wore masks during the break-ins and recklessly fired a gun while leaving one of the shops.

They further allege the group stole $50,000 worth of goods from the various stores. They always fled to a waiting getaway car.

On Aug. 29, Toronto Police led several raids connected to the case. They found two guns, allegedly in the hands of a 16-year-old, and other assorted evidence. They arrested four people during these raids.

Tristan Chonevski, 24 of Oshawa, is charged with;

  • 27 counts of break and enter
  • disguise with intent
  • possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, and
  • possession of burglar tools

Malachi Glover, 23 of Toronto, is charged with;

  • six counts of break and enter
  • disguise with intent, and
  • possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000

A Toronto boy, 16, is charged with;

  • six counts of break and enter
  • disguise with intent
  • possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • possession of a loaded restricted firearm
  • possession of an unloaded prohibited firearm
  • possession of a prohibited device
  • two counts of careless storage, and
  • two counts of drug possession for trafficking

Duane Davis, 43 of Toronto is charged with;

  • possession of a loaded restricted firearm
  • possession of an unloaded prohibited firearm
  • possession of a prohibited device
  • two counts of careless storage
  • two counts of drug possession for trafficking
  • careless storage of ammunition, and
  • possession of a gun while prohibited

All four suspects appeared in court on Aug. 30. Another two people are wanted in connection to the break-ins but have not yet been arrested.

A Toronto boy, 17, is wanted for;

  • six counts of break and enter
  • disguise with intent
  • possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000

Finally, Jasmine Glover, 41 of Toronto, is wanted for;

  • possession of a loaded restricted firearm
  • possession of an unloaded prohibited firearm
  • possession of a prohibited device
  • two counts of careless storage
  • two counts of drug possession for trafficking, and
  • careless storage of ammunition
