Summer RIDE nets 1,700 cars and 18 charges for Ajax, Clarington, Oshawa, Pickering and Toronto drivers

The results of Durham Police’s second week of their Summer RIDE program are in after officers stopped more than 1,700 cars.
“Officers conducted R.I.D.E checks throughout the Region of Durham with one goal: roadway safety,” police wrote, “Although this program focuses on impaired related offences, the overall goal is to ensure the safety of the roadways within our region.”
In total, they pulled over 1,703 drivers and gave 49 of them a breathalyzer test. Out of these tests, 10 blew over enough to warrant impaired driving charges while another four merely earned a warning. Police issued another eight criminal charges due to the stops.
This represents a significant jump from the first week which saw 1,379 stops, 25 roadside tests and charges for seven drivers.

- Liselle Chieverton, 41 of Toronto
- driving with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood
- Cordell Clarke, 32 of Pickering
- impaired driving
- driving with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood
- obstructing police
- driving while suspended
- running a red light
- failure to stop for police
- driving with blood alcohol content above zero as a novice
- Keira Covert, 20 of Clarington
- impaired driving
- driving with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood
- driving with blood alcohol content above zero as a novice
- Erik Donnelly, 43 of Ajax
- impaired driving
- refusal to comply with a breath demand
- possession of a Schedule One drug
- driving with liquor readily available
- driving no licence plates
- driving without insurance
- driving while suspended
- failure to surrender the permit for the car
- Doodnauth Latchamn, 61 of Ajax
- driving with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood
- Kalven Lewis, 24 of Ajax

“During one of the mobile R.I.D.E. lines, officers located and seized a loaded handgun, a reminder of the dangers our officers face,” police noted.
“We would like to thank all residents who called to report impaired drivers,” they continued, “Please remember: If you see it, report it – it could save a life. If you suspect an impaired driver, please call 911 and provide as many details as possible. Vehicle make and model, direction of travel and the licence plate when possible.”
