Durham Police say the suspect in a drive-by shooting in Ajax early Monday morning that put six people in hospital was involved in a “verbal altercation” at a customer appreciation party that night before returning hours later and opening fire.

On Monday, August 1 at approximately 1:20 a.m., members from West Division were dispatched to a shooting call at the rear of the Dams Foods on Harwood Ave. S., where they found five people suffering from gunshot wounds. A sixth person showed up at a Toronto hospital, also suffering from a gunshot wound.

It’s believed the suspect was at a customer appreciation party and was involved in an argument with some patrons. The suspect left the restaurant and hours later returned and opened fire at the party.

Six adults – three women and three men – were shot. Two suffered life-threatening injuries. All victims are now listed in stable condition.

Police interviewed several patrons of this after-hours party and continue to look for witnesses and evidence that would assist in identifying the suspects.

The only descriptor of the suspect is that he was male. The suspect vehicle is described as a dark-coloured four-door vehicle.

Anyone with new information about this incident is asked to contact Det. MacKinnon of the West Criminal Investigations Bureau at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 2529.

Anonymous information can be sent to Durham Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or online at www.durhamregionalcrimestoppers.ca and tipsters may be eligible for a $2,000 cash reward.
