Suspect sought after alleged sexual assault on bus in Oshawa

Investigators are working to identify a man accused of sexual assault on a Durham Region Transit bus leaving Oshawa’s Durham College campus.

The victim was leaving the campus around 5 p.m. on Sept. 12. and boarded the DRT bus to head home. As the bus sat in the transit loop waiting to leave, the suspect also boarded the bus.

According to Durham Police, the suspect sat next to the victim and struck up a conversation. When the victim got up to leave at her stop, the suspect groped her, police allege.

The victim managed to get off the bus safely and called police to report the incident.

Investigators describe the suspect as a brown man between 20 and 30 years old. He stands about five-foot-eight, with a medium build and a black beard. He wore a black turban, a white t-shirt, dark jeans and a black backpack.

“If you are sexually assaulted or you witness someone being sexually assaulted on public transit, call police immediately,” police said. “Victims are also advised to draw attention to the incident, inform the bus driver, and make note of the bus number and suspect’s description.”

This is the second such incident at Durham College since classes resumed this month.
