It was a sweet day in Barrie for Lisa Filon and BETTER Tarts of Orono, who captured Best Crust and the ooey-gooey best prize of all – Best Overall Butter Tart Champion – at the Barrie Butter Tart Festival.
“What a great day it was,” enthused Filon, who also took home Best Crust and Best Overall at the Pickering Butter Tarts, Hot Sauces & More Festival last September. “Large crowds, great turnout and raisin for the win!”
Other winners on Saturday in Barrie included Ten of Tarts for Best Filling, Capital B Café for Best Presentation and Grandma’s Beach Treats for Best Non-Traditional Butter Tart.
The Barrie and Pickering festivals, as well as butter tart competitions in Oshawa, Bowmanville and dozens of other locations around the province, are all part of the Ontario Butter Tart Trail festival tour that leads fans of Canada’s quintessential treat to the best butter tarts around.
The Ontario championships are held in Midland every year.
