Submissions are open for Pickering Animal Services’ third annual Tails of Hope short story contest for children.

Kids aged 5-12 are invited to submit an animal-related story for a chance to have the tale professionally published and made part of the permanent collection at the Pickering Public Library.

“It is our goal to help cultivate a generation that is kind, confident, and empathetic towards animals,” said Lindsey Narraway, Supervisor, Animal Services. “By hosting this contest, we are providing children with a wonderful opportunity to express their creativity and learn more about animals at the same time. We look forward to seeing all of the submissions.”

There are three categories for the contest: 5-7, 8-10 and 11-12. All stories must include a biography of the author and be 14-20 pages in length. Images should not have watermarks and only emailed stories will be accepted.

The deadline for the contest, delivered with partners Pickering Public Library and HiFive Kids Dental & Braces, is June 16 at 5 p.m.
