A panel discussion on the global impact of pop superstar Taylor Swift will be among the highlights of Trent University Durham’s Open House Saturday at the school’s Oshawa campus.
Future students will also have the opportunity to learn about Trent recently enhanced entrance and prestigious scholarships, as well as ask questions about academic programs, see inside student residences, apply to Trent on the spot, and explore academic programs.
The Open House, which will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., will feature new interdisciplinary expert panels, with faculty members from different disciplines discussing hot topics from the perspective of their own area of expertise. The three sessions will focus on artificial intelligence, climate change and Taylor Swift.
“We can’t wait to welcome future students to our campus and introduce them to the Trent University Durham GTA experience,” said campus Vice-President Dr. Scott Henderson. “We’re always looking for new ways to showcase the student experience and hosting panel discussions on subjects relevant to the daily lives of students allows us to connect the learning experience to current issues in an engaging and fun manner.”
Students and guests attending the Open House will get the details about Trent’s recent increase to all renewable entrance scholarships, with first year students with a 95 per cent average earning full scholarships for the first year, with the packages also renewable up to $4,000 for each year they are at Trent – a deal worth as much as $18,000.
The university has also boosted its prestigious scholarships with 15 annual awards with funding up to $30,000 over four years to recognize the academic and community achievements of top scholars, with a dedicated booth staffed by financial aid employees to answer any questions.
The scholarships are available at all campuses in Peterborough and the Durham GTA campus in Oshawa.
“Rewarding academic excellence of our students is a top priority at Trent,” said Dr. Cathy Bruce, president and vice-chancellor. “When students work hard and demonstrate a strong commitment to their studies, we must recognize and nurture that dedication, especially in a way that has meaningful material benefit to their life on campus and their life outside of academics. By increasing renewable entrance scholarships, we hope to inspire our students toward even greater achievements here at Trent and beyond.”
Prospective students can connect with professors and current students on programs at the school, including Trent’s growing range of future-focused programs like Artificial Intelligence, Business, Journalism & Creative Writing, Policing & Community Well-Being, Computer Science, Law & Arts and Law & Business.
Information on paid co-op streams will also be available and the campus tours will be running throughout the event.
All students who attend Open House are automatically entered in a draw for a chance to win free first-year tuition, and those who take a tour of Trent Durham’s modern academic and residence building can also enter a draw to win free residence and meal plan for a year.
To make it easier for students and guests to get to Trent, a free shuttle bus will run every 15 minutes from the Oshawa GO station to the Thornton Road campus. Attendees can also receive a reimbursement for their GO Transit tickets at the event.
