A 17-year-old boy has been charged with driving impaired through Ajax.

Durham Regional Police officers were out on patrol around 12:30 a.m. on July 5 when they noticed a car driving south on Harwood Ave. The officers became concerned the driver was impaired and tried to pull him over.

However, the car raced off down Harwood Ave. The officer chased him for a while but pulled back when he reached too high a speed. Another officer out that night spotted the driver a little while later speeding on Brock St. near Hwy 401.

This officer coordinated with multiple other cruisers and managed to pull off a “rolling block.” In this maneuver, several cruisers surround a car and force it to slow down by applying their own brakes.

The 17-year-old from Scarborough was charged with impaired driving with a blood-alcohol content over 80 milligrams, dangerous driving, and fleeing police. His identity is protected by the Youth Criminal Justice Act. Police did not specify what kind of car he was driving.
