A 13-year-old cyclist remains in life-threatening condition in a Toronto hospital after she was struck by a SUV and pinned underneath at a crosswalk in Ajax Thursday morning.

The girl was attempting to cross Rossland Road at Stevensgate Drive when she was hit by the vehicle and trapped underneath.

Durham Police responded to the call just after 7:30 Thursday morning and found the teenager pinned under the vehicle and suffering from extensive injuries. She was extricated and treated by paramedics before being transported via Air Ornge to a Toronto trauma centre.

The investigation determined that a black Hyundai Sante Fe was southbound on Stevensgate Drive approaching Rossland Road West when it struck the cyclist attempting to cross at a marked crosswalk. The driver of the Hyundai remained on the scene.

Rossland Road between Carter Bennett Drive and Ravenscroft Road was closed in both directions for several hours while evidence was collected by the DRPS Collision Investigation Unit.
