Teenager charged after woman stabbed in the neck in Whitby

A Whitby teen has been charged with assault with a weapon after a woman walking with her child was stabbed in the neck Tuesday afternoon.

Central West Division officers were called to Closson Drive and Des Newman Boulevard in Whitby Tuesday afternoon Whitby for an armed person. The victim was walking in the area with their child when the suspect approached them from behind and used an unknown object to pierce the victim’s neck.

The man then fled the area on foot, travelling southbound on Des Newman Boulevard. Investigators are still working to determine exactly what happened and are appealing to the public for assistance.

The victim attended a local area hospital where she received treatment and was released. There were no injuries to the child.

A 17 year-old was held, pending a bail hearing.
