Teenager facing multiple charges – including flight from police – after hit-and-run in Bowmanville

A Newtonville teenager is in custody after a hit-and-run in Bowmanville Tuesday.

Durham Police responded to a collision call near Liberty Street and Baseline Road and learned an Audi sedan had fled after colliding with a Hyundai. Police located the Audi in Newtonville and tried to stop the vehicle, only to have the driver take off once again.

Officers pursued the vehicle for a short distance until it came to a nearby residence. The passengers fled inside but the driver, a 17-year-old Newtonville resident, was caught and taken into custody.

The teenager is charged with dangerous driving, stunt driving, flight from police, fail to remain, fail to report an accident and careless driving. He was released on promise to appear in court.
