A 17-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman are recovering from gunshot wounds after an accidental discharge in Ajax, with the young man facing aggravated assault charges and a 45 year-old woman who was at the scene charged with public mischief.

The two teens walked into Lakeridge Health Ajax Monday afternoon with both suffering from gunshot wounds. West Division officers arrived just before 4:30 p.m. and spoke to a witness who initially provided false information to police, interfering with the investigation in the process.

Police then visited a home on Booker Drive where it was determined that the boy accidentally shot himself and the woman. Both teens were treated for minor injuries and released from the hospital.

No one at the residence has a registered firearm or firearms license.

The 17 year-old has been charged with aggravated assault and discharge firearm\reckless to the life or safety of another person. He was held for a bail hearing.

The 45-year-old woman, a resident of the Booker Drive address in Ajax is charged with public mischief. She was released on an undertaking.

Anyone with new information about this incident is asked to contact Det. MacKinnon of West Division Criminal Investigations Bureau at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 2529.
