Graduate and undergraduate students serving as teaching assistants and academic advisors at Trent University have a new contract, with a tentative settlement on a new collective agreement between the university and CUPE Local 3908 Unit 2 reached Monday.

The new deal with 525 academic workers – 495 at Trent’s main campus in Peterborough and 30 in Oshawa at Trent University Durham GTA – became effective on September 1.

Both teams have agreed to recommend the tentative settlement to their respective parties, with CUPE members and the school’s Board of Governors to vote on ratification.

Most Unit 2 members are graduate teaching assistants, but many work as both graduate and undergraduate student markers, academic assistants, and computer lab advisors.
