Church’s Texas Chicken brand, with signage in place at 70 King in downtown Oshawa for months, is finally open for hungry customers, with the restaurant holding its grand opening today (April 26).
The chain was first brought to life in San Antonio, Texas, across from the Alamo in 1952, and is now in 25 countries around the world.
Church’s Chicken has been in Canada since 1979.
The downtown Oshawa location is the second in the city (there is another Chruch’s restaurant at 2061 Simcoe. St. N. in the University District) and the third in Durham Region, following the opening of the Whitby location (1549 Dundas St. E.) in 2019.
The restaurant is located at the Market inside 70 King and will be open 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. seven days a week with a menu that includes crunchy chicken sandwiches and wraps, fried chicken meals, chicken tenders, desserts (apple pie, churro bites) and sides, including mashed potatoes, savoury crinkle fries, coleslaw, jalapeno bombers and the company’s signature flaky honey-butter biscuits.
A happy-but-tired staffer said the grand opening went well. “It was enjoyable but very busy. We had a lot of customers.”
