PSD Brooks and his super tongue and D/Cst Rodgers

Week three of Furry Fridays (on Mondays) introduces Police Service Dog Brooks, a Dutch Shepherd who celebrated his birthday Saturday.

One of Brooks’ unique characteristics is how long is tongue is; it’s joked sometimes that he opens his mouth as wide as a snake.

Brooks, named for country music superstar Garth Brooks, is Durham Police’s newest member of the K9 Unit, having only been on paw patrol for seven months, but he’s already a veteran of many service calls.

The most memorable call for Brooks and his partner, D/Cst. Rodgers was also their first and happened just hours after receiving their badge.

They sprung into action February 1 for a police pursuit of a stolen vehicle. The suspects fled the vehicle running into a residential area and a K9 track was immediately initiated by Rodgers and Brooks. PSD Brooks did a lengthy track in -25C weather, travelling over multiple fences and frozen creeks and into dense bush before they located the hiding suspects.
