With fall vibes in the air and sunny weather still holding, there’s no shortage of events across Pickering, Ajax, Whitby and Oshawa. From festive community gatherings to unique shopping experiences and family fun, there’s something for everyone! Here’s what you can catch from Sept. 20 to 22:


September 20

Pickering:

Durham Family Event

The event, organized by Welcome Wagon, will be held at the Pickering Recreation Complex and focus on beauty and personal care.

Oshawa:

Convergence Music Festival 2024

Downtown Oshawa comes to life with a three-day cosmic-themed community street festival, blending music, art and culture. This vibrant event offers an exciting, immersive experience for everyone to enjoy.

Time: 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.


Oshawa Video Game Show

The Oshawa Video Game Show is teaming up with Convergence Festival to host its biggest event yet. Expect thousands of retro and modern video games, consoles, accessories and geek merchandise. Additional attractions include live music on three stages, wrestling, art exhibits and a Punk Rock Flea Market. Attendees are encouraged to dress as their favourite video game, comic book, movie or pop culture character.

September 21

Pickering:

Pickering Fairy Tours

The Fairy Tour offers a chance to discover whimsical fairy, elf and gnome homes scattered throughout the village and forest while learning about the history and folklore behind these mystical beings. The walking tour includes gravel pathways and uneven terrain and will only be rescheduled in the case of dangerous weather. The cost is $42.25 + tax per group (up to six people).

Jersey Nights

Blackrose Entertainment presents Jersey Nights, a high-energy tribute to Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. Featuring hits like “Sherry,” “Let’s Hang On,” and “Walk Like a Man,” the show blends dynamic vocals, choreography, and live music. With four vocalists and a 4-piece band, Jersey Nights offers an engaging performance that brings the music of this iconic era to life.

Home Improvement and Decorating Show

The Home Improvement and Decorating Show in Pickering, organized by Show Creations Ltd, will run for seven days (beginning Sept. 16) and showcase the latest in sustainable home improvement and renovation technologies. The event will feature a variety of products and services from industry leaders, offering a platform for manufacturers, suppliers, and wholesalers to present to both professionals and the public, including interior decorators, homeowners and renovation enthusiasts.

Batman Day 2024 at Heroic Dreams

Batman Day 2024 will feature free comics including, Batman: The Long Halloween #1; Batman Wayne Family Adventures #1; and Joker: The World Special Edition #1. These comics are available while supplies last.

Additional comics for purchase include Batman Elmer Fudd Special #1, Batman Elmer Fudd Special Noir #1, Batman The Long Halloween #1 and several editions of Detective Comics #27.

Ajax:

YAAD FEST

YAAD FEST debuts with a family-friendly music and dance festival hosted by DJ Suppa Natty and Janet Mann. The event features performances from local artists, followed by international acts like Tanto Metro & Devonte, Nadine Sutherland and the TandA Twins. Attendees can enjoy a children’s play area, a vendor market, a fashion show and live music throughout the day. A 50-50 draw will also support the local food bank.

6th Annual Family Fun Fest
The family-friendly event offers a variety of activities including face painting, bouncy castles, cotton candy, balloons, vendors, live music, games and prizes. Entry is free, and street parking is available. Attendees are encouraged to register online and tickets will be entered into a draw at the end of the event.

Children’s Karaoke

Children’s karaoke will take place in the Achilles Hall as part of Legion Week. This free event includes a hot dog and drink for children. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Attendees are also to note that the karaoke is for children only, though they may be joined by an adult while singing.

Whitby:

Whitby Farmers’ Market

This market offers a variety of options for those seeking tasty treats, fresh produce or unique creations. It’s the perfect opportunity to support local vendors and enjoy the community atmosphere.

Brooklin Whitby Harvest Festival

The Brooklin Harvest Festival returns with businesses and restaurants offering sidewalk sales and unique shopping experiences. The event features an Adventure Zone with a rock wall, a Kids’ Zone with interactive activities, a balloon artist and dinosaurs. Visitors can relax in Adirondack chairs while enjoying local entertainment at the main stage in Grass Park.

Victorian Parlour Games

Guests are invited to the parlour for an afternoon of old-fashioned fun and games. No experience is necessary. Admission is $10 and advanced registration is required.

Beech Street Theatre Presents The Sodfather Part II

This live production is filled with laughs, suspense, and unforgettable moments. Set at Antonio’s Loft, the show follows Theresa and Moxie as they investigate Don Vito’s mysterious death. The evening includes a buffet dinner and a live performance, with doors opening for guests to enjoy the event. Expect plot twists, witty banter and surprises throughout this thrilling production.

Concerts by Candlelight

Drop in for outdoor Oktoberfest vibes with beer, food and games. The event will take place rain or shine.

This jewelry shopping event supports Breast Cancer Awareness. Guests can enjoy games, prizes, swag bags and pink prosecco while browsing Tocara’s collection.
