September 6

Ajax:

1st Fridays Durham – Cinematic innovations Edition:

The event will highlight innovations and technological advancements in the world of film and media through with a lineup of guest speakers.

Annieka Lisa Francis, an actress, producer and entrepreneur, will share her wealth of experience and insights. Sasha L Henry, a renowned vocalist and executive producer, will discuss her journey through the music and media industries. Michelle Joseph, an acclaimed writer and podcaster, will offer her unique perspective on storytelling and media creation.

Whitby:

Summer Mobile Food Market

Community Care Durham is hosting a Summer Mobile Food Market at 55+ Recreation Centre. The market will offer fruits and vegetables from local growers at reasonable prices. This initiative aims to provide access to fresh produce while supporting local agriculture.

September 7

Pickering:

Family Fun Day Event w/ Boyer!

Join the Pine Ridge Corvette Club at Boyer in Pickering for a Corvette car show. The event will feature free frozen treats, face painting, balloon twisting and a jumping castle for the kids, making it a fun family afternoon to kick off the school year.

The event also supports St. Paul’s Community Food Bank; visitors are encouraged to contribute non-perishable food items.

Ajax:

SALE $10 to $30 -Name brand clothes

A pop-up shop will feature a curated selection of brand-new clothing from brands like Levi’s, Wrangler, Zara, and Ralph Lauren at prices ranging from $10 to $30. Items include t-shirts, shirts, jeans, pants, jackets and hoodies.

The shop promotes sustainability by preventing these clothes from being sent to landfills, offering a way for customers to support a greener future.

Whitby:

Whitby Farmers’ Market

This market offers a variety of options for those seeking tasty treats, fresh produce or unique creations. It’s the perfect opportunity to support local vendors and enjoy the community atmosphere.

Time: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.


Oshawa:

Durham Region Tattoo & Lifestyle Show

Many artists will offer walk-up slots throughout the weekend, but spots fill quickly, and visitors are encouraged to arrive early. Walk-up availability may work for small tattoos, but larger custom pieces are advised to be booked in advance.

Tickets are required for all attendees and can be purchased online or at the door.

Opportunities include sponsorships and vendor booths for businesses offering apparel, motorsports and music services. Tattoo artists from Durham, the GTA and beyond are invited to compete in over 15 categories with prizes totalling over $5000 in cash, plaques and sponsored items.

Backyard Movie Night

The RMG, in collaboration with DRIFF, will be showing Chandler Levack’s I Like Movies, a comedy-drama set in the 2000s about a teenage cinephile working at a video store with aspirations of becoming a filmmaker. Attendees are encouraged to bring a chair or blanket. Food will be available from Bollywood Tacos.

September 8

Pickering:

Hawthorne Heights

Music lovers might want to check out the Hawthorne Heights band. Known for their pop punk, emo and rock sound, the group will be performing live at Pickering Casino. The band features JT Woodruff on vocals and guitar, Chris Popadak on drums, Matt Ridenour on bass and vocals, and Mark McMillon on guitar and vocals.

Byrne & Clark – Jazz on the Patio

Byrne & Clark, formerly known as Kevin & Karen, will perform at OpenStudio Art Café in Nautica Village. They will play their signature smooth jazz guitar with sultry vocals.

Pinoy Rap Icons

An electrifying concert tour is set to feature some of the biggest names in Filipino hip-hop, including Skusta Clee, Flow G, Yuri Dope, Omar Baliw, Hellmerry, and the legendary Gloc-9. Fans across Canada will have the chance to experience the best of Filipino rap live. Whether you’re a long-time fan or new to their music, this event promises to be an unforgettable experience.

Durham Storytellers

Durham Storytellers is a volunteer group focused on keeping oral storytelling alive and relevant in today’s society. Without books or notes, they aim to inspire others to share their own stories. Their next event will be held at the Lynde House Museum.

5th Annual Durham Region Children’s Business Fair
