Threats made with a box cutter in convenience store robbery in Oshawa

One person was threatened with a box cutter during a convenience store robbery in Oshawa.

Officers responded to a robbery call on Oct. 1 around 11:30 p.m. in the Circle K at 1051 Simcoe St. N., Durham Regional Police said.

A man entered the store and grabbed cigarettes before attempting to flee the scene, police said.

Police said a witness attempted to block the door, at which point the man brandished a box cutter and fled.

There were no physical injuries reported.

One person was charged in connection with the incident.

Michael Beggs, 28, of Oshawa, faces 10 charges including uttering death threats, assault with a weapon, robbery and fail to comply with probation.

Beggs was held for a bail hearing.
