Tip to DRPS from United Kingdom leads to a Clarington man’s arrest in Ajax

Durham Regional Police arrested a man in Ajax yesterday after receiving a tip from their British counterparts in the Durham Constabulary.

The Constabulary, the only police force of County Durham (just south of Northumberland, which borders Scotland) in North East England, received information regarding a disturbance in Ajax at 11 a.m. November 9.

The British officers reached out to Durham Regional officers to let them know of the domestic-related incident. DRPS West Division officers followed up and went to the home in the Audley Road and Taunton Road East area.

When police arrived, a man fled from the house. Officers found the man in the yard of another home in the area. The man refused to follow police commands when they caught up to him. An altercation with police ensued and an officer tazed the man to subdue and arrest him.

The victim, a woman, received medical attention her injuries.

The man is a 35-year-old from Clarington who police have not identified. He faces charges of break and enter into a dwelling house, assault, forcible confinement, forcible detainer, failure to comply with release order and disobey lawful order of court.

The man will remain in custody pending a bail hearing.
