The best way to bring a community together is through food. People love reading about new restaurant openings and they sure love eating there! From the exotic (Nepalese food!) to the classic (pizza!). Durham Region’s new food choices run the gamut.
Here are the Top 5 biggest restaurant openings in Durham in 2022:
5) Mamma’s Pizza
This west-GTA chain has been in business since 1957 and franchising since 1999 and “finally” makes its foray into Durham with the opening of its unique upscale thin-crust style pizzeria in Whitby
4) Tahini’s
Mediterranean food continues to make its mark in Durham with the Pickering opening of Tahini’s, a London-based restaurant chain specializing in dishes like falafel, butter chicken and shawarma poutine.
3) Street MoMo
You can’t get more exotic in downtown Oshawa than Indo-Nepalese cooking and have I mentioned that Momos are so amazing! Did you know that in Nepal, they’re typically filled with buffalo meat? And Momos are just a sample of what you can find at this restaurant, which also features Tom Yum Soup and Crab Rangoon along with a variety of Momos.
2) Kettlemans Bagel Company
It’s doubtful there was a more anticipated opening than that of Kettleman’s, an Ottawa institution specializing in Montreal-style bagels. Kettleman’s opened with much fanfare (and long lineups) in Whitby in June and is open 24-7.
1)Burger’s Priest
The Toronto burger chain has assembled a huge following and is now open in Pickering at the Pickering Town Centre selling their signature smash burgers, hot dogs, chicken tenders and sammies, fries and shakes.
Other popular new openings included Sharman’s Proper Pies In Pickering, Desi Cuisine in Ajax and Odd Burger coming to Whitby.
