The alleged use of counterfeit cash has led to charges for a Toronto man after the public helped identify him.
Durham Police allege the man used fake cash at the Bowmanville Walmart at 2320 Highway 2 on May 4. The man was accompanied by a woman at the time.
The same pair are under investigation for similar crimes in other areas. However, Durham Police did not specify which regions these alleged crimes took place.
Police announced their investigation on May 27. However, they did not know the names of the suspects. As a result, they issued a public appeal for information about the pair.
The public delivered. One suspect, the man, has been identified as Kelly James Osbourne, 45 of Toronto. He’s charged with using counterfeit money.
However, he remains at large. Anyone with information of his whereabouts can call police at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 5371 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
Police wanted to “remind the community that counterfeit currency is still being circulated throughout the region. Everyone is encouraged to double check their bills when handling and receiving cash.”
