An authentic Mexican taco restaurant with nearly a quarter-century of history serving Scarborough diners is opening its fourth location – the first outside Toronto – next month in downtown Oshawa.

Mexitaco Tequila Bar & Grill, which opened its first location in 2001 and has restaurants on Birchmount Road (Cantina), Kingston Road (Bluffs) and on Victoria Park – as well as a Latin supermarket – will open in Oshawa at 74 Simcoe St. N., across from the Holiday Inn this spring.

The Oshawa location will be adorned with Mexican murals for that south-of-the-Rio- Grande vibe and will feature a bar and dine-in area with a stage for live entertainment.

The restaurant will serve fresh and authentic Mexican dishes in a casual environment, from Carne Asada, Chorizo, Al Pastor, Baja Avocado and Veggie Tacos to Tostados, Mexican Fries, Chicken Wings, Nachos, Mexican street food and iconic dessert items like Churros.

Mexitaco famously gave a cooking lesson on Much Music to actress and pop star Hilary Duff in 2001.

No official date has been given for the opening, other than sometime this spring.
