The Town of Ajax is more than $1.1 million richer this month after pocketing its first quarter casino hosting fee from the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation.

Ajax earned $1,140,910 for the April 1-June 30 period for hosting the Casino Ajax, bringing its total earnings since the casino opened in 2006 to $108,258,3018.

The payments to host communities are based on a formula that is applied across all casino sites in Ontario using a graduated scale of gaming revenue at the hosted site.

“Investing OLG’s profits back into host communities is another example of our government’s continued efforts to strengthen local infrastructure and community programs,” said Stan Cho, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Gaming. “We remain focused on working with our municipal partners to ensure that communities across Ontario have the supports in place to empower their residents to lead active, fulfilling lives and enable local businesses to thrive.”

Host communities have received more than $2.1 billion in non-tax gaming revenue, with all OLG profits invested in the Province, since the first casino opened in Ontario in 1994.

Since 2017, casino service providers have invested more than $2.2 billion in private sector capital across the province and have led to the development and opening of seven new casinos and one in development.
