A Cannington couple are more than $56,000 richer after winning a LOTTO 6/49 second prize in the March 20 draw.

Susan and Don Simpson of Cannington, who play the lottery weekly, said this was their first win.

Don Simpson was at home when he thought to check their tickets on the OLG app. “I heard the Big Winner prompt and I had to scan it three times for it to register in my brain,” he shared while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to collect their winnings. “I called Sue and said, ‘You need to come see this!’ I scanned the ticket in front of her – she was so surprised!”

“I was in total disbelief and had to go to the store to be sure it was real.”

They plan to put this win toward a travel fund. “”It was special. We feel very fortunate,” Susan Simpson said, adding that the $56,159.10 prize “gives us the chance to see the world!”

The Classic Draw offers a fixed $5 million jackpot for every draw, while the Gold Ball Draw guarantees a $1 million prize, or the growing jackpot that starts at $10 million and can exceed $60 million.

The winning ticket was purchased at Mac’s on Cameron Street in Cannington.
